Firefighting Planes and Helicopters
In July 2013 a small fire, started on Monte Jovet after a lightning strike around 11 July. The blaze defied attempts to extinguish it and over the next three weeks burned its way through the forest getting ever closer to Patocco.
Usually a haven of tranquility, for three weeks Patocco resembled a war zone with helicopters and planes flying continuously over the village to drop water on the flames. At the same time, preparations were made for ground based fire fighting to protect the village if the fire got too close.
