Photos from Chinop
Three years after the great fire, these photos were taken on 15 August 2016 on the path from Patocco to Stalla Chinop, and onwards on the path towards montasio for a few hundred metres. Whilst some of the vegetation has recovered well, indeed the 621 path is almost overgrown. Many trees which seemed to have survived the fire have now died. Especially dangerous are the still standing beech trees which could fall at any moment.
The path from Chinop towards Montasio is block every fe tens of metres by fallen trees and avoiding them can be quite arduous, with the added risk of trees falling on you. Further along where the forest was burnt back to bare rock, water has washed away sections of the path and some new water channels are 2-3 M deep ravines that have to be crossed.
However, the 620 path from Patocco to Chinop has been restored with fallen trees cut away and major gaps in the path repaired.
